📅 Event held as part of the Romanian Sculptors' Month
🤝 In partnership with the Museum of History and Ethnography Ungheni (Republic of Moldova)
As part of the Romanian Sculptors' Month, the Metropolitan Museum of Iași is honored to host the exhibition “The Romanian Wayside Cross – A Bridge Through Time”, an evocative journey into the spiritual and artistic world of the traditional Romanian wayside cross (troiță).
Organized in partnership with the Museum of History and Ethnography Ungheni from the Republic of Moldova, the exhibition brings together an impressive collection of wooden crosses gathered from across Bessarabia—monuments of faith, memory, and sacrifice rooted in Romanian tradition. Each cross stands as a living testament to Christian consciousness and as a vivid expression of the folk sculptor’s craftsmanship, transforming wood into a bridge across time and borders.
Through this exhibition, we invite visitors to discover not only the beauty of Romanian folk art but also the deep connection between spirituality, identity, and cultural continuity on both sides of the Prut River.
We warmly welcome you to step into a space where tradition speaks, and the wayside crosses become living testimonies of the unity of Romanian faith and spirit.
