The Way of the Cross Hall
The perimeter space, generically called "Calea Crucii" (Way of the Cross), is a narrow corridor (between 0.8-1.50 meters wide), tall (over 2.2 meters), and very long, practically encircling the cathedral's foundation, which is visible through many of the 30 niches of varying dimensions (widths between 1.77-3.25 meters, depths between 0.29-1.24 meters, and heights between 0.67-2.35 meters).
This space offers a unique perspective on the foundation of the building and provides a spectacular experience. It is an area worth showcasing, especially since even the simple act of walking through it generates a special feeling of sharing in a sacred mystery.
Although it was initially intended to be used for an exhibition featuring items compatible with the space and microclimate, such as tombstones, old stone crosses, decommissioned church bells, metal church implements, and small crosses, this space is currently used as a passage to the last segment of the museum and for organizing temporary exhibitions.
In the future, it is planned to use the lateral niches of this perimeter corridor to set up a permanent exhibition dedicated to the martyrs of the communist prisons. Until then, the space is used for various temporary exhibitions.
