For information about accessibility at the Metropolitan Museum of Iași, to make appointments, or other suggestions regarding the organization of a comfortable visit or simply for updates about the services offered, please contact us at muzeul.mitropolitan@mmb.ro or by calling 0374704762 (Tuesday to Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM).
Visitors with disabilities or special health needs are given priority access at the ticket counters and museum entrance. Please contact the reception staff for information and assistance. Please note that persons with disabilities, along with one of their relatives (or any other accompanying person), are entitled to free priority access only if their disability is certified.
Resting chairs are available in all exhibition spaces.
For persons with visual impairments
The spaces of the Metropolitan Museum are signposted in Braille for persons with visual impairments. During the visit, you will encounter special directional signs placed in various locations.
Guide dogs for the blind, wearing the appropriate harness and kept on a leash, are allowed with prior notification of their presence before the visit.
The admission of assistance dogs or therapy animals is conditioned by presenting a certification that confirms the need for their presence and their suitability to provide this service, issued by a public health unit. If you bring an assistance dog or therapy animal, please inform us in advance and send the relevant certification by email to muzeul.mitropolitan@mmb.ro. The use of a leash is mandatory.
For persons with hearing impairments
For persons with hearing impairments, the Metropolitan Museum of Iași has partnered with the Foundation of Solidarity and Hope, so that if necessary, a sign language specialist will interpret the guided tour.
To ensure the availability of guides, please contact the museum reception staff.
Also, video recordings of the exhibition spaces will be published here, translated into sign language.
For persons with communication impairments
We are working with specialists to create a sensory map of the exhibition spaces.
Until this map and other details are published, we assure you that the Metropolitan Museum of Iași is generally a quiet place, although it may be crowded at certain times. If you are sensitive to noise, you may enter with noise-canceling headphones. In the Ekklesia room, especially in the first part of the day (after the Divine Liturgy), you may notice the smell of incense.
For persons with mobility impairments
Entrance Accessibility
The regular entrance is located opposite the “Dumitru Stăniloae” Library, which leads to the Synaxar room, situated below the level of the entrance and the Commercial Gallery (there are a total of 6 steps to access it). To reach the upper level where the following three museum rooms (Offering, Founders, and Ekklesia) are located, the visitor must climb XX steps.
The accessible entrance for visitors with mobility impairments and those with special health needs is located at the same place as the main museum entrance. After visiting the Synaxar room, the visitor must proceed to the Metropolitan Cathedral esplanade in the area near the candle holder to the right of the Cathedral’s exit stairs, where they will be assisted by specialized personnel to the ramp leading to the next three rooms.
Visitors who need to enter with motorized wheelchairs, electric scooters, or other large devices are invited to contact the reception staff one day before the visit to ensure a smooth experience.
Wheelchairs with a total weight (including the person) greater than 230 kg or a length greater than 120 cm are not allowed.
Accessible Toilet
The accessible toilet for persons with disabilities is located in the courtyard of the Metropolitan Ensemble of Iași and is signposted according to the current legislation. It is situated near the museum entrance and is marked by a special directional sign in Braille. However, if you are unable to find the toilet, please ask the reception staff for the most precise directions to the nearest toilet.
In addition to the toilet reserved for persons with disabilities in the inner courtyard of the Metropolitan Ensemble of Iași, there are also toilets for all visitors, located nearby, recommended especially for visitors about to begin their visit.
